The whole zombie apocalypse has been done before but it is always great to see a different take on the subject. In this version we get to see how awesome gore can be when combined with full frontal shots and a dash of comic relief in the form of non stop innuendos.
I do not normally watch anime in its dubbed form but I found that the voice actors were really good. The anime is great in its vernacular but I couldn’t stand the annoying girly screams; it felt like I was watching hentai instead.
High School of the Dead is set in the present day and begins with the world being struck by a deadly pandemic that turns humans into zombies which all the main characters refer to as “Them”.
The story follows a group of high school students, none of which have anything in common but find common ground in the struggle for survival. As our “heroes” try to survive the zombie apocalypse, they must also face the additional threats of societal collapse, in the form of dangerous fellow survivors, and the destruction of their own moral codes.
Through their journey, each character learns more about themselves and who they really are when faced with danger. I’d love to tell you more but I would rather not spoil it for you. The ending leaves it open for so much more, so I am hoping the story continues in the near future. Until then I will have to make do with the manga.
The anime is still on Netflix instant but has a NR rating, which means adults only! Make your way over to the net and enjoy!
