It appears that The CW misses its superheroes! A pilot episode for Green Arrow titled “Arrow” has been ordered, says InsideTV. This does not ‘green’ light a series just yet, however it is hope for Smallville fans everywhere who might want to see the emerald archer return to TV. The now ended series of Smallville introduced Green Arrow in 2006 played by Justin Hartley. The character was very well received by the fans and became part of the recurring cast till its series finale on May 13th 2011.
This does not appear to be a Smallville spin off however, as so far Justin Hartley is not attached to the project. No details on the pilot have been released just yet. It might be safe to assume The CW will cast a new face as Green Arrow and start from scratch as there is a lot to the character that wasn’t fully explored in Smallville.
As of the new 52 in DC Comics, the Green Arrow series plays out a lot like the Smallville version. His costume isn’t a complete rip off of Robin Hood, and he’s lost the unfashionable beard. He also embraces technology a bit more than in just the tips of his arrows. The character is portrayed more like the Steve Jobs of DC Universe with his company even producing its own widely used Smartphone called the “Qphone.” If the series is bought, I bet we can expect to see something closer to this version of Green Arrow as opposed to the former classic comic version with his boxing glove arrow.
What we do know officially so far is that the executive producers and writers are Greg Berlanti (Brothers & Sisters), Marc Guggenheim (Flashforward), and Andrew Kreisberg (Vampire Diaries and Fringe) whom also worked on the Green Arrow & Black Canary comic, as well as Batman Confidential. Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television are producing.
Are you going to give a Green Arrow series a chance? Who else wishes for Justin Hartley to reprise the role? I hope the pilot is good and sincerely hope The CW doesn’t let it slip through its fingers like they did the Aquaman pilot (which also starred Justin Hartley check it out on Itunes)!
