Fave cartoon/book/movie/whatever: Hello Kitty, Wolverine and Boba Fett are my fave things.
L: Unknowingly, I’ve made several of your dishes and several of your crafts. Since you do these things as a living, is it hard to sit back and enjoy what you’re creating or are you constantly thinking about the best way to lay it out on the web for us readers to learn from?
JJ: When I come up with recipes, I take step by step pictures because it always helps to be able to see HOW to make things, even food. Being a designer by trade, I’m very visual and so I usually sketch everything out in advance so I can kind of figure out what I want the final recipe to look like.

L: You’ve been featured on numerous sites for your creations, written up on various blogs…is there one place left that would make your life (if it hasn’t been made already!)?
JJ: I’ve self published a comic/cookbook, but I would like to publish a larger, more complete book of recipes. However, putting together a cookbook is hard work as not only do you have to create the recipes but testing them takes time. A LOT of time. So I’m slowly but surely working on it. I certainly wouldn’t feel comfortable if someone made recipes from my books and they came out awful.

L: Since you seem constantly doing something amazingly cool, what kind of projects do you have in the works?
JJ: I have a lot of stuff going on with the recipes that I can’t talk about yet. In a month or two I will finally be able to reveal it all! As far as geeky recipes for the website, it’s constant and I’m always trying to figure out something new that hasn’t been done before. My friends are a big help with that, suggestion-wise. My friend Autumn (who along with me and 11 others are the founders of the LxL) wanted Game of Thrones horse-heart cupcakes for her baby shower. It was a challenge for sure, mostly because I’m a perfectionist – but I pulled it off in the end! ***
L: Everyone has a science fiction property that means the world to them, be it Star Wars, Back to the Future, or even E.T. What’s yours?
JJ: Star Wars for sure. I’m a collector and lover of the movies and toys and Star Wars is very inspirational to me as far as ideas for cooking and baking. Being able to create things that are inspired by the movies take your love of the property to the next level. When I did the ‘Ultimate Star Wars Party‘, I filled sketchbooks with different recipes all relating to Star Wars. I still continue to sketch up new ideas everyday. When the Ultimate Star Wars Party went live on my site it got picked up by various media outlets and I received over 100,000 unique visitors that month. I think this proves that there are tons of fans out there who are all looking for ways to share their love of Star Wars.I’m also a HUGE Back to the Future and Ghostbusters fan, but I’ve yet to create anything related to it besides watching the movies 1000 times over.

L: You genuinely seem to care about input from fans about your products. Why is this so important to you as a creator (I feel all creators should take a page from your book)?JJ: I care about input because comments and tweets are the easiest form of feedback. I was a on a panel at last year’s Geek Girl Con where I spoke about running your own ‘geeky business’. Being relatable to your customers/readers allows you to make a connection, to make them become a fan in the sense that they want to see what you do next and they will become supporters of your upcoming project, whatever it is. Everyone needs encouragement, it’s what keeps us all going.

L: I ask this question of everyone, so be honest: If aliens landed in front of you and, in exchange for anything you desire, offered you any position on their planet, what position would you want? I know I’d crap my pants.
JJ: I used to be a theme park designer before I turned to this world of blogging so I suppose I would build structures for the aliens…although since I now work with sweets I guess I’d build theme parks for them but all the walls would be out of cake.
