Fanart Spotlight: DeviantArt’s Lberghol

Harry Potter has been off the radar for far too long. Today we’re going to fix that by highlighting one of my absolute favorite fanartists on DeviantArt, artist Lauren Bergholm, who goes by the handle “lberghol”.

Lberghol hasn’t updated in a while, but while she was  active, she was prolific. Her gallery has over 20 pages in it, and about 15 pages of it is Harry Potter fanart.

I’ve been following lberhol’s page since 2006 when I stumbled upon it looking for Ron/Hermione art. She quickly became one of my favorite artists because she takes time to portray complex emotions and character relationships, in addition to many light, fluffy treatments of Ron, Hermione, Harry, Ginny, Neville, Luna, the rest of the Weasleys, and plenty of other characters. Her versatility and range were unique among artists who focused heavily on one character or relationship, or stuck with one trope and re-did it over and over.

For a while, Lauren was even updating her gallery based on the season/holiday, and that was pretty awesome. I probably have more of her art saved to my computer than anything else; in fact her “knitting” collection is my desktop background at the moment.

While it was her Ron/Hermione art that drew me to her DeviantArt page, it was the caring way she handled the characters, and the variety in her work that made me stay. She hasn’t posted anything new since 2009, but her art is still intriguing, and you can easily waste an entire weekend wading though her extensive body of work.
