You saw us at All-Con 2012 all weekend mid March, and now IHOGeek will be hosting Speed Dating at A-Kon23 in Dallas, Tx. I’ve lurked several speed dating sites to make sure I’ve researched everything properly so, if you happen to attend A-Kon this June, come by and possibly meet a new mate! Each year at conventions, I notice a large amount of people are looking for love among legions of people just like them. This can certainly be daunting to even the most outspoken individual so I decided to organize a Geek Speed Dating event!
Primarily, if you are interested in participating, you must sign up beforehand as this cuts out panel time used for you to fill out the application, get your name tag/etc.
Use this application form and email it to us at ihogeek@gmail.com. It can be typed in, printed & handwritten, or you can use your mouse in MS Paint, it’s all up to you.
As of right now (5/26/12) , the schedule for A-Kon23 has us as follows:
- Geek Speed Dating Remington’s Thursday 8:00 pm – Midnight
- Geek Speed Dating State Room 4 Saturday 8:00 pm – 11:00 pm
There is a lot on the schedule for Saturday night so I’m hoping for a large turnout on a normally quiet Thursday. In a perfect scenario, I’ll have one half of the room doing LGBT at the same time as the hetero panel so everyone has TWO chances to make it to one of the panels.
Should the panel fill up beforehand, I will accept participants at the door only if people leave/don’t show up and it will be a first come, first served basis. Since Thursday gives me FOUR whole hours to hold this panel, I’ll be accepting a total of 30 people for each half so every date lasts five minutes. This translates to 30 participants for each session Thursday and since I only have THREE hours on Saturday, I’ll be accepting a total of 25 people for each half.
The event is 18 and over and I will be checking ID’s at the door. I’m sorry, but the convention organizers think there’ll be less problems this way. For more rules, check out the image to the right.
Hope to see you there!
UPDATE 4/11/09: When you send in your application, specify which panel you’d like and your sexual orientation!!
UPDATE 5/29/12: Since the tentative schedules have been released, there has been many people pulling out so the panels stand as follows:
Thursday: Males 20/20 Females 15/20, LGBT 13/30
Saturday: Males 25/25 Females 22/25, LGBT 18/25
