It just so happens I was looking for a gorgeous piece of art I saw yesterday and then THIS beauty showed up. Behold, the loveliness of this Korra. Also, be sure to check out the artist’s other works.
I can’t even begin to describe the awe I felt in my heart upon seeing this collection of superhero silhouettes, so here they are for your enjoyment!
Be sure to check out the artist’s other work!
Many superheroes have been around for decades upon decades, so it’s no surprise that some have racked up quite an impressive hook-up list. While some couples have failed to stand the test of time (or some Crisis or another), we can still root for our favorite pairings all we want. After all, it’s comics; no one stays dead forever. Which leads me to this week’s ship: B-man and Kitty Cat. Selina and Bruce. Catwoman and Batman.
The current incarnation of the duo meets up to bang on the occasional rooftop (with the costumes on;), but the Bat/Cat ship has been going strong for almost as long as the big man has worn the cowl and cape. While Bruce’s origins have stayed relatively stable throughout the years (rich, dead parents, an Alfred, etc), Selina’s past has been altered so many times that it’s no wonder she’s not running around Gotham as Pandawoman or something. However, whether former prostitute, flight attendant, or street urchin, Catwoman has always maintained everything from a purrrfectly flirtatious and antagonistic relationship with Bruce to becoming his confidant, ally, and friend. Lets not forget that Selina is often keeper of Batman’s most guarded secret: his identity. It’s love, folks.
Costumes changed, Gotham changed, but the fact remains that there will always be a third party to the Cat/Bat ship: He is the Dark Knight of Gotham, its guardian and best detective, and she is a thief and a whip-wielding rogue. Perhaps this little problem can best be seen during the Hush storyline when, just as those crazy masks seem to work their shit out, the Bruce’s distrust of Selina ultimately ends the affair.
Even when Catwoman is at her least villainous, splitting her time between stealing only the most necessary feline related artifacts and working as the vigilante of the East End, they just can’t seem to make it work. The fact is, Bruce doesn’t belong to himself so long as Batman belongs to Gotham. The tragedy of their relationship is that Selina would have to give up Catwoman to be with Bruce, but Bruce can never give up being Batman. Since she’s a sassy kitty, I’m sure Selina could handle no part of that unbalanced relationship and would bristle at the very thought.
But no worries, some of the best Bruce/Selina moments have occurred amidst all this angst and during periods of not hooking up. A personal favorite occurs in Catwoman volume 3 when Batman brings baby Helena(poor little Helena, I can never remember if you still exist at any given moment) a big stuffed teddy bear. Not only was this very sweet, but we got to see big bad Batman holding a toy bear. I died from the cuteness.
The point is, no matter what the current status of their relationship is (like when Bruce occasionally impregnates the daughter of his greatest enemy), something’s going on between these two and we love to see it. Here’s to hoping Nolan’s version (and more nail-chewing worthy Hathaway’s Catwoman ) gives us a good Cat/Bat depiction that pays tribute to their long history with each other.
Finally I picked a ship that wasn’t a COMPLETE pain in the ass to find swag and other goodness. enjoy!

I already own too many Her Universe shirts, if that’s possible, but it looks like I’m about to own some more. On July 11th, four new t-shirts will be available, and all of them have kick-ass Doctor Who designs on them. This new line unsurprising, as Doctor Who was the top request for new shirts, according to yesterday’s press release. Perhaps even more exciting is the fact that these shirts aren’t just Her Universe — they are official BBC Worldwide merchandise, and will be available on the Her Universe website as well as the BBC America online shop, bringing plenty of new attention to one of our favorite companies! I’m going to get right to the images, since they’re pretty self-explanatory.[slideshow]

Over this last weekend I received an invite to attend the Tri-Wyrd Convention 2o12 at the Costa Mesa, California Hilton.
Tri-Wyrd is an interactive storytelling, transmedia, LARP, Belegarth and a bit of everything else con.
Meaning [Just in Case]: Imagine Dungeons and Dragons-esque tabletop gaming. Except you don’t have figurines, you are the character, in costume, with a bag full of magic/lockpicks/weapons/spells/cures and such.
You’ll get to [foam created] swordfight. And wear your chainmail in public. Mas Fun.
However, as of last week, I did take part in any of those particular clans of geek/nerd-dom, I was curious and concerned that I might feel like a total lame not knowing the lingo.
But you know what? I had a great weekend. I met some awesome people. I learned some awesome things. I improved my knowledge of languages, real and created.
I got to be a live action part of an “Arcade Game” and at one point I think someone may have mistook me for a high-end lady of the night.
Highlights:
1. Meeting and interviewing David J Peterson, creator of the fleshed out version of the Dothraki language for “Game of Thrones” on HBO [A Song of Ice and Fire Series, for us purists]. There is an almost 45 minute interview with this guy, so if you have a long car ride, a cake to bake, or laundry to fold, this is what you should listen to.
I sound like a squeeky dweeb [no really, I sound like I’m 12] and he sounds really cool and, voila, speaks well [who didn’t see that one coming, right?].
Peterson can speak/communicate in over 10 languages, linguistically recognized and conlinger created. He created the Dothraki language, in its fullest formation, and is incredibly humble about it.
Fun Peterson Facts:
- Was inspired to learn all the languages of the world from a dream he had when he was a child. Admits he may set the bar a little high.
- Made up fun facts about Dothraki as a part of the application process when he submitted his “Dothraki Dictionary” of sorts to HBO.
- Has his Master of Arts in Linguistics.
- Thinks Albanian is an interesting language, recommends that people should learn it if they ever get the chance.
2. The “Arcade Game” called Tomb of the Goblin King.
Ok, so a live action version of an arcade game literally involved me crawling through tunnel in a parking garage in goth evening wear, throwing a sword at a crowd of Goblins trying to attack my boyfriend “Britt! You can’t throw the sword! Throwing swords is not allowed” and using sugar packets to bribe my GM. Kind of.
So yeah, the arcade game is literally structured like a real arcade game and you can “die” within the first few minutes then go back to the beginning. No save points.
According to my GM, the shortest a team stayed in the was 2 minutes.
I loved it. Of course, I love screaming weird stuff in public, playing dress up and sword fighting [thank you Coach Redmon for teaching me everything I know] and just having fun.
So yes, Tri-Wyrd was super fun. I got to hang out with the Belegarth combat league folk, craft with the costume crafters, get my portrait drawn [Thanks Jula] and just have a great time overall. Totally going back next year. Join me and we shall battle. Epically.
Anybody else keep seeing the HP commercial for the Beats laptop with the ridiculously catchy song playing during it. Well, I do. So I had to look up what the song was.
Please enter the url to a YouTube video. On an odd note, the blonde chick singing reminds me of the actress who plays Daenerys on HBO’s Game of Thrones.
Oh yeah, if you are actually interested in the laptop here is the commercial for that too….
